Role-playing and progression games

Your character grows along with you. Through quests and challenges, they gain experience, become stronger or more skillful, discover new talents and equip useful items. The game builds up over time: choices made at the start, like which qualities to develop first, shape everything that follows. Reading, decision-making, planning and perseverance all work together. These games often require reading fairly rich texts and menus, which makes them more comfortable around 8 or 9, even if some can be played earlier. The urge to play “just one more level” is strong: it's best to agree on how long to play before starting.
