Strategy games for kids

Luck counts for little: here, everything depends on the decisions you make. You place your pieces, choose which way to go, make the best use of what you have and try to guess what your opponent is planning. A good idea at the start of a game can change everything at the end. Thinking several moves ahead, reasoning logically and changing plans when the situation shifts: that's what these games train. They're aimed more at kids aged 7 or 8, although some very simple ones can be played earlier. Chess and checkers rely on the same skills: a child who enjoys these games may want to try them too, on a real board.
