Turn over two cards and remember what they were hiding, repeat a sequence of colors or sounds, spot the object that has moved: your memory is put to the test, round after round. At first there's only a little to remember, then the list grows bit by bit, until you really have to concentrate. This trains working memory, the kind you also use to keep an instruction or a lesson in your head. Simple picture pairs are within reach of 3- and 4-year-olds; older kids will be more interested in beating their record. Pass the screen around at each turn and the game quickly becomes a little challenge at home, and the grown-up doesn't always win.
